The holy maid, Joan of Arc (1412-1431)

There were still more than twenty years to finish the long and bloody war between England and France which has gone down in history as the Hundred Years War (1337-1453). In a conflict which ravaged and impoverished peoples in conflict, a young illiterate but pious and deeply religious led the French armies to victory at Orleans. Abandoned by everyone from the King Hung with its value until one day the church believed in their divine voices, Joan of Arc was given to the British enemy and burned at the stake. The Maid of Orleans would have to wait many centuries to see their courage rewarded.

From peasant warrior
Jeanne d'Arc was born in a village the region of Lorraine, Domremy in 1412. Despite the war, John lived a happy childhood beside his parents Jacques Darc and Isabelle Rome and his four brothers. At the age of 14 years, the young man began to have visions and hear voices strange, mystical experiences that initially concealed from their parents. Juana identified these voices with two saints, St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Margaret of Antioch , and the Archangel Gabriel. Juana receiving mixed messages clearly came to hear an order: an army was to leave France to lift the siege of Orleans, one of the last strongholds of the French resistance against the British.

The peasant girl went to Vaucouleurs, a town near Domremy, where Robert was Baudricourt, commander of the royal forces. After several failed attempts in which Baudricourt scoffed at the small, an accurate prediction of defeat changed his mind the skeptical captain who took her to the court of Chinon.

Juana In 1429 he finally got an interview with the dauphin, the future Charles VII. It appears that the dolphin was tested at the young hiding in the crowd and placing a member of the court in place. Apart from descriptions prior of the future monarch or because Joan had extraordinary gifts, the truth was that the girl managed to recognize the true dolphin. This fact and the words that were in a private interview Carlos convinced that Joan was not a phony.

Orleans Jeanne departed for championing a French army would be victorious. The young girl had become a warrior under the command of God and France.

The abandonment of the anointed king
The July 17, 1429 the dauphin was crowned in the cathedral of Reims as Charles VII. Joan had gotten beat the British and give Carlos the French crown.

But from the time the interests of both began to diverge. A pact-position of the king, who intended to end the conflict reaching peace agreements even at the expense of losing rights or territories opposed Juana, who according to their voices, had to fight to expel the foreign armies and their allies the Burgundians French territory.

Although the king continued to send troops to Juana, these victories were few and gave way to losses. Juana capture was the end of his life as a warrior. Once in British hands, Charles VII could not or would not do anything to rescue those who had helped him to ascend the throne of France. The king anointed by Juana disregarded the voices of the court, including that of his mistress Agnes Sorel , asking him to mediate the release of the young maiden.

The conviction of treason
Joan had been captured in 1430 in Compiègne, the city that the French troops trying to maintain his power. Despite the efforts of his colleagues knew nothing done for her. After being held captive in various castles, Jeanne was given by the Burgundy the English, who wanted to convict the girl that one day he defeated his armies.

The trial was long. Juana was accused of heresy and dress like a man, something strictly forbidden for a woman. After a tiring and long process, supporters of Juana managed to retract all allegations and to re-dress as a woman. But it seems that being detained by changing her clothes off again for male clothes. Jane then returned to assert their beliefs and signing his death sentence.

In 1431, just 19 years, Joan of Arc was burned at accused the stake as a heretic.

From holy heretic
23 years after Joan's death, his family requested a review of the case. Pope Callistus III appointed a commission that fully restored the young maiden. More than four centuries later, another pope, Benedict XV Juana stood at the altar to be canonized. On 30 May, the date of his death, his feast is celebrated.
